Prodigal,

The world recognizes the fallacy of the Christmas calibration; they have claimed it for themselves, so let them have it, it belongs to them anyway. But, Christians will not give it back without a fight. My position is that I have simply given up fighting. I had personally tried to pull a little slight of hand to prolong the illusion that Jesus wanted us to celebrate His birth, when that is not the case at all. I was tricked like all the rest who cannot find deliverance because of the fame of this pagan holy day.

When so many others in our life and gatherings would dare not even conceive a thought, and think for a moment that Christmas or Easter is not high and holy, the one who would propose such a dastardly thing is deserving of the worst type of rejection or even harm. But, all the facts are there for the looking, and they are contrary to everything we have ever been taught by the "Church," who stand first in line to cast stones.

That is the plight of knowledgeable Christians today, and it is not a very comfortable position to be in considering we will be cast out and find ourselves alone and rejected in the midst of all the jubilation and gift giving. Not many will go that route I can assure you, but it is nonetheless the truth.

I am glad I am not the only believer who is grieved and vexed by Christmas. As much good as it seems to produce, it still reeks of materialism, emotionalism, and looking backwards instead of "looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?" (2 Peter 3:12 ASV)

It is interesting that the early church fathers (ante-nicene) condemned even birthday celebrations. I have become less endeared to this practise as well, remarking to some that birthdays really signify the end, or death, of the year celebrated rather than celebrating the year to come.

On a side not, anything instituted after Constantine needs to be regarded with much suspicion, I believe. Unfortunately, that includes Augustine, who very much approved of the wedding of government sword and church authority AND conversion by compulsion.
